Summary

In order not to consume fossil fuels, electricity demands have rapidly increased to achieve net zero CO2 emissions in 2050. An ejector refrigeration cycle is a heat-driven cooling system that can use waste heat and solar heat with small electric power, so it has the possibility to achieve an electric energy-saving cooling system. The experiments using a low-pressure refrigerant, R245fa, or its alternative refrigerant, R1224yd(Z) were conducted. The COP, the ratio of the cooling capacity to the electricity consumption of the working fluid feed pump, reaches higher than 50 in the case of R1224yd(Z) at the generating and evaporating temperatures of 56 °C and 15 °C. The COP of the total system may be considered to be higher than that of ordinary vaporpressure refrigeration cycles having the COP being around 7 in Japan. In addition, the experimental performance of our testing apparatus using R1224yd(Z) is superior to that using R245fa.
