Summary

A cold-room door opens by lateral sliding. Heavy cold air flows out at the bottom and light hot air enters at the top of the door. A velocity vector orientation shows that the flow is horizontal at the lower and upper parts of the door. All the experimental data are represented by a correlation that shows that the mass flow increases with temperature difference. The data are compared with a simplified theoretical approach. Finally, air curtain protectors were tested. This device reduces the mass entering the cold room by 38%.
