Experimental evaluation of the use of homogeneous and slip-flow two-phase dynamic models in evaporator modelling.

Summary

Distributed dynamic models of a simple coaxial-type evaporator were used in the simulation tool Sinda/Fluint. In order to obtain data for model validation, an experimental set-up was established. Model validation showed that the dynamic response of the homogeneous model was too fast whereas the results based on the slip-flow model agreed very well. Another difference in the results from the two types of model was the estimation of charge. The overall conclusion is that to investigate the dynamic behaviour of the refrigerant in the evaporator, it is necessary to use a slip-flow two-phase model instead a homogeneous one.
