Experimental studies on heat transfer in annular flow.

Author(s) : SUN G., HEWITT G. F.

Summary

The paper presents experimental studies on the problem of heat transfer of evaporation and condensation in single component upward annular flow in a vertical bore tube. The aim of the experiments was to elucidate the mechanism of heat transfer in annular flow by distinguishing between the conventional explanation and the alternative hypothesis in which heat transfer is enhanced by secondary nucleation in the region. The experiments were carried out under the same conditions (namely, equilibrium annular flow) for both evaporation and condensation in the same test section. The heat transfer coefficients were generally below those predicted from simple film heat transfer theory, particularly at high quality. But the present data are in reasonable agreement with existing data and correlation for forced convective two-phase flow heat transfer.
