Summary

Experimental research was conducted to evaluate the pool boiling heat transfer of HFC-134a on a horizontal smooth copper tube. The tested tube has 16.75/18.87 mm inner/outer diameters and an effective heat transfer length of 1.5 m. Experiments were carried out at liquid saturation temperatures of 4, 7 and 10°C and heat fluxes from 4900 W*m-2 up to 34 000 W*m-2, approximately. Boiling heat transfer coefficients (HTCs) were obtained from the experimental data and compared against the results provided by some well-known experimental correlations found in the literature. In the paper, the experimental setup and data acquisition system are described, the data reduction methodology detailed and the experimental results are presented and discussed.
