Summary

A multi-function heat pump with a new cycle pattern was designed to enhance its energy efficiency and a test rig was built to conduct the experiment on the performance at the different working conditions in different seasons. The results show that the average heat capacity and the performance coefficients of the multi-function heat pump decreases with the decrease in the ambient temperature when the heat pump supplies hot water in winter and transition seasons. In summer or winter, it runs normally under the cooling or heating condition. The average thermal efficiency is 4.3, and the average COP is 3.3 when the condensation heat is reclaimed in summer and the inlet water temperature at the evaporation side is 12°C. It is likely that the multi-function heat pump is feasible in energy saving.
