Experimental study on parallel flow evaporators used in roof top bus air conditionings.

Number: pap. n. 216

Author(s) : LIANG Y., CHEN J. P.

Summary

Parallel flow evaporator with louver fins was designed for roof top bus air conditionings instead of fin-and-tube evaporators in this paper. Experimental study was conducted on parallel flow evaporators, the results showed that the heat transfer under wet condition is not significantly influenced when the inclination angle changes from 0° to 40°, while the air side pressure drop increases a lot. The effect of refrigerant charge on cooling capacity and coefficient of performance was researched to find the optimum charge amount for the bus AC system. The newly designed evaporator has the same heat capacity with the original fin-and-tube evaporator, but 57.6% volume reduction and 38% lighter.
