Summary
A small residential thermal-storage air conditioning system is put forward in this paper. The air conditioning system would combine variable refrigerant flow (VRF) technology with ice-storage technology. And this air conditioning system has six working modes including common refrigeration operation, ice charging operation, ice discharging operation, heat pump operation, heat storage operation and heat release operation. The refrigeration system is designed and fabricated based on sub-cooled refrigeration cycle with ice storage, and the test bench was built up. The experimental results show that the system can work about 8 hours at ice charging operation mode and stores 378,000 kJ cooling power as the ice thickness of outside of copper tube is 35 mm. The cooling power of ice storage facility can ensure that the system supplies cooling power about 8 hours, and the refrigeration capacity of air conditioning system would improve 30%. Compared with the normal air conditioning system and the system can balance electric energy very well.
