Experimental study on the granular ice melting.

Author(s) : WANG J., MA Y., ZHA S.

Summary

In order to obtain the melting characteristics of the granular ice in a column ice tank, the total melting time, the amount of the remaining ice and convective heat transfer coefficient between ice and water are investigated during the variable ice melting process. As a result, the temperature of the outlet water rises quickly after the quantity of the remaining ice decreases to the point of 20%. During the experiment of constant amount of ice melting process, the relationships among the parameters, such as the size of the granular ice, water flow rate, the height of the ice bed and the outlet and inlet water temperatures are established. The fact that the outlet water temperature can be very close to 0°C in the height of the ice bed is over 1 metre is found.
