Experimental study on the performance of a CO2/DME system.

Author(s) : KOYAMA S., JIN D. X., XUE J., et al.

Summary

In this study, the binary mixture CO2/DME (90/10 wt%) was proposed as an alternative refrigerant for CO2 to reduce the high-operating pressure associated with CO2 transcritical refrigeration system. The performances of CO2/DME and pure CO2 systems were experimentally investigated using the same equipment in the conditions of constant heating/cooling capacity and superheat. Experimental results show, compared to the pure CO2 system, that the CO2/DME system operates with almost the same maximum COPs, and considerably lower discharge pressures in both the heating mode and the cooling mode. In the maximum COP condition, the CO2/DME system can reduce the discharge pressure by about 2 MPa in the heating mode and about 1.9 MPa in the cooling mode.
