FIELD EXPERIMENTAL REPORT ON THE APPLICATION OF A MECHANICALLY FABRICATED POROUS SURFACE TUBE IN A FLOODED EVAPORATOR. 4 DIFFERENT BOILING MECHANISMS ON THE POROUS SURFACE SUGGESTED IN RECENT YEARS AND IN EARLY EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES ARE SUMMARIZED. FIELD EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS WITH R12 AS THE BOILING LIQUID ARE REPORTED. THESE RESULTS SHOW THAT POROUS SURFACE TUBES ARE VERY EFFECTIVE (INCREASE IN THE HEAT FLUX BY 36%).
