Summary

IN THE USE OF THE VDI-WARMEATLAS IN CALCULATING A HEAT-TRANSFER COEFFICIENT, A NUMBER OF BOUNDARY CONDITIONS ARE ASSUMED. HOWEVER, IN A REAL DESIGN NOT ALL OF THESE CONDITIONS WILL BE SATISFIED COMPLETELY, THUS LEADING TO INACCURACY OF THE CALCULATION. THEREFORE, AFTER THE DESIGN OF A HORIZONTAL TUBE ABSORBER, AN EXPERIMENTAL VERIFICATION OF THE CALCULATED WATERSIDE HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT WAS CARRIED OUT. THE ABSORBER, THE MOST CRITICAL COMPONENT IN AN ABSORPTION MACHINE, WAS BUILT. FROM THE EXPERIMENTS IT APPEARS THAT AT REYNOLDS NUMBERS FROM 1,500 TO 11,000 THE MEAN DIFFERENCE BETWEEN EXPERIMENTAL AND VDI-VALUES IS 26%.
