Summary

R1336mzz(E) has attracted attention as a new working fluid for waste heat recovery systems and organic Rankine cycles, replacing R245fa. This study experimentally investigated the boiling and condensation heat transfer characteristics of R1336mzz(E) in a horizontal multiport tube. The heat transfer coefficients were measured for the boiling and condensation flows. The effects of mass velocity, heat flux, and vapor quality on the boiling and condensation heat transfer coefficients were clarified. The boiling and condensation heat transfer were characterized by surface tension at lower mass velocities, while forced convective heat transfer became dominant at high mass velocities. The measured data were compared to previous correlations of heat transfer coefficients and frictional pressure drops.
