Summary
The environmental parameters which are causing concern and which are directly related to packaging are itemized, notably solid waste disposal, litter, ozone depletion, air and water pollution, sea and ocean pollution and depletion of non renewable resources. Each of these issues is examined in detail, and is followed by a review of current packaging materials and their disposability. Environmental legislation in Germany, France, UK, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Netherlands, Italy, Scandinavia, together with North America and Japan, is defined and discussed. The rise of eco-labelling and trends in environmental legislation are also considered. G.R.S.
