FIRE EXTINCTION IN LOW TEMPERATURE ROOMS (A CO2 SNUFFING SYSTEM).

EXTINCTION DES INCENDIES DANS LES CHAMBRES A BASSE TEMPERATURE (METHODE DE NOYAGE PAR CO2 ).

Author(s) : DUPORT A.

Summary

THE PAPER DESCRIBES THE FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEM OF A COLD STORE OF 65,000 M3 VOLUME AND OPERATING AT 243 K (-30 DEG C), WHICH WAS EQUIPPED WITH IONIC DETECTORS, ALARM SYSTEMS AND A TELEPHONE TRANSMITTER CONNECTED TO A CENTRAL WARNING AND MONITORING STATION. IN ANOTHER 7,500 M3 COLD ROOM, TESTS ARE BEING CARRIED OUT WITH A CO2 EXTINCTION SYSTEM. SINCE THERE IS THE RISK OF ASPHYXIATION, THE SYSTEM IS EQUIPPED WITH SAFETY AND CONTROL DEVICES TO PREVENT THE GAS BEING INJECTED WHILE PEOPLE ARE WORKING. THE INJECTORS (LOCATED AT CEILING LEVEL) ARE CONNECTED TO TWO SEPARATE CIRCUITS TO AVOID ANY FORTUITOUS RELEASE OF THE GAS.
