Flow boiling of refrigerant R-134a inside a microfin tube: experimental tests and prediction.

Author(s) : CAVALLINI A., DEL COL D., PADOVAN A., et al.

Summary

This paper reports the heat transfer coefficients measured during vaporisation of R-134a inside a microfin tube. This same tube was already tested during condensation of R-134a. The experimental runs are carried out at 30°C saturation temperature, with mass velocity ranging from 200 to 600 kg/m2.s and heat flux from 42 to 86 kW/m2. The present data covers a vapour quality range between 0.08 and 0.93. The effects of vapour quality, mass velocity and heat flux on the heat transfer coefficient are investigated. The experimental data is compared to the condensation tests carried out on the same tube. This data is also compared to the prediction obtained by the authors.
