Summary

The paper provides the results of simulations using an adiabatic capillary tube model which is developed to study the flow characteristics in adiabatic capillary tubes used as a refrigerant control device in refrigerating systems. It is found that the conventional refrigerants consistently give longer capillary lengths than the alternative refrigerants. For all pairs, the conventional refrigerant consistently gives lower pressure drops for both single-phase and two-phase flow which resulted in longer tube lengths. An example of capillary tube selection chart developed from the present numerical simulation is shown. The results of this study are of technological importance.
