Summary
A national project, "development of new refrigerants, blowing agents and cleaning solvents for effective use of energy," was started in 1994 and will continue over an 8 year period. Main research is taking place on the basis of corporation between NIMC and RITE supported by NEDO. Fluorinated ether compounds as alternatives to CFCs, HCFCs, and HFCs are being developed and over 150 fluorinated ethers were synthesized; three alternative compounds were selected as refrigerants.
