IN 1990, FOR THE FOURTH YEAR IN A ROW, THE AMERICAN DEMAND FOR FROZEN FOOD GREW. BY WEIGHT THE INCREASE WAS 0.6 % ; BY VALUE IT WAS 4.4 %, REACHING $ 15.9 BILLION (NONE OF THESE FIGURES INCLUDES ICE CREAM OR POULTRY). FROZEN FOOD THUS OVERTOOK CHILLED FOOD, CONSUMPTION OF WHICH FELL BY 0.4 BREAKFAST-ITEM CONSUMPTION GREW BY 17.6 % TO PASS THE BILLION-DOLLAR MARK FOR THE FIRST TIME.
