Freeze-drying process development for products needing sublimation temperatures below -30 deg C, including excipients, factor VIII, cytostatica.

Author(s) : WILLEMER H. M.

Summary

Freezing of a product depends on cooling velocity, containers, filling volume, conditions during filling, loading, freezing and the starting of the drying process. The minimum temperature needed for freezing and for sublimation has to be determined. During the main drying process, the sublimation temperature has to be controlled (saturation pressure). During secondary drying the desorption rates and time needed to reach the wanted residual moisture are observed. Process development of products containing different excipients is described.
