EFFECTS OF STORAGE AT -20, -76 AND -196 DEG C ON THE RESISTANCE OF LACTOBACILLUS ACIDOPHILUS GROWN ON A SKIMMILK MEDIUM. THE VIABILITY OF CELLS AND THEIR RESISTANCE TO BILE AND THE ACTIVITY OF BETA-GALACTOSIDASE AND THEIR SUSCEPTIBILITY TO ENZYMOLYSIS (LYSOZYME) ARE AFFECTED. DETERIORATIONS OF THE MEMBRANES AND CELL WALLS OF BACTERIA ARE OBSERVED.
