Summary

The effects of flow separation both on the freezing heat transfer characteristics and the pressure drop of a duct flow have been investigated. The degree of flow separation was varied by employing various orifice heights at the inlet of the duct. Measurements showed that the first and the second ice layer spaces were strongly related to flow separation by an orifice and that the stepped ice pattern after 2nd spacing ice-bands was very similar to the patterns observed in the case of pipe flow.
