DESCRIPTION OF THE TECHNIQUE OF THE CENTRE DE GENETIQUE ANIMALE (INRA/FRANCE): COLLECTION OF EMBRYOS AT THE BLASTOCYTE STAGE, 7 DAYS AFTER FERTILISATION ; ADDITION OF A CRYOPROTECTANT (GLYCEROL SOLUTION AT 10%) ; PLACING IN PLASTIC STRAWS ; FREEZING TO 266 K (-7 DEG C), THEN TO 238 K (-35 DEG C) AT 0.3 K/MIN AND KEEPING IN LIQUID NITROGEN FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. THE EMBRYO IS THAWED IN A FEW SECONDS AND INTRODUCED IN THE UTERUS OF THE RECEPTOR COW. THE FIRST RESULTS SHOW A YIELD OF ABOUT 50% (RATIO OF THE NUMBER OF CALVES TO THE NUMBER OF FROZEN EMBRYOS).
