Summary

THE IRREGULAR STRUCTURE OF YBCO(7-) CERAMIC SAMPLES WITH DENSITIES P = 3.5 AND 5.15 G/CM3 IS STUDIED BY THE SMALL-ANGLE NEUTRON SCATTERING TECHNIQUE. THE SCATTERING INTENSITY SUBSTANTIALLY DECREASES AT TEMPERATURES BELOW THE BOILING TEMPERATURE OF THE GASES AND AIR SURROUNDING THE SAMPLE, DUE TO CONDENSATION OF THE GASES IN THE CERAMIC PORES BELOW THEIR BOILING POINT. CONNECTION BETWEEN THE PORE SYSTEM AND THE SURFACE OF THE SAMPLE, EXPLAINS EXCHANGE BETWEEN THE CERAMIC AND OXYGEN. THE DEPENDENCE OF THE SCATTERING INTENSITY ON THE TRANSFERRED NEUTRON MOMENTUM IS DESCRIBED AND EXPLAINED.
