Summary

FOLLOWING RESEARCH IN THE USA AND EUROPE WHERE AN INCREASE IN THE FREEZING POINT OF MILK IN TANKS COMPARED TO CHURNS WAS NOTED, THE PRESENT WORK GIVES FREEZING TEMPERATURES MEASURED AT VARIOUS POINTS IN THE SYSTEM FOLLOWING MILKING. 8 SAMPLES WERE TAKEN FOR A PERIOD OF 2 DAYS AND IT WAS FOUND THAT FROM 10 FARMS INVESTIGATED, RESIDUAL WASHING WATER IN THE TANKS HAD NO EFFECT ON THE FREEZING POINT WHEN COMPARED WITH SAMPLES TAKEN FROM THE PIPELINE CLOSEST TO THE TANK.
