Summary

The heat pumps use primarily waste heat occurring in the building, such as from the ventilation system and from waste water. Additional heat sources may be required according to the local situation. To minimize energy consumption and the peak demand of electricity, a sophisticated computer-based energy management system plays an important role in the concept. Several systems went into operation in Austria during the last 10 years. They work reliably and achieve low heating and operating costs. An interesting system has recently been installed in a recreation hotel where hot spring water is now used more effectively.
