HCFC123: THE GOOD NEWS.

Author(s) : SMITHART E. L.

Type of article: Article

Summary

THE AUTHOR CLARIFIES A NUMBER OF POINTS REGARDING THE AVAILABILITY AND SUITABILITY OF R123 AS A REFRIGERANT REPLACING R11 IN CENTRIFUGAL COMPRESSOR SYSTEMS. APART FROM A CONSIDERABLE IMPROVEMENT IN THE OZONE DEPLETION AND GLOBAL WARMING CHARACTERISTICS, R123 HAS ALMOST AS HIGH AN EFFICIENCY. IT WILL PROBABLY BE OF EQUAL COST WITHIN A FEW YEARS AND HAS ONLY MILDLY POORER POTENTIAL SAFETY CLASSIFICATION. IT SHOULD THEREFORE BE A SUITABLE REFRIGERANT FOR AT LEAST THE NEXT TWENTY TO THIRTY YEARS. D.W.H.
