Heat and mass transfer enhancement in adsorbent bed.

Author(s) : XU J., JIANG T., LIU G.

Summary

The adsorbent bed, as the core component of the adsorption system, plays a key role in maintaining the operation of adsorption cycles. The quality of the heat and mass transfer in an adsorbent bed conditions the performances of solid adsorption machines. In the paper, a new consolidated composite adsorbent material has been constructed by a particular physicochemical method. The effective thermal conductivity, which is 20 times better than in granular beds, has been measured by a laser pulse method. A simplified numerical analysis in a piece of the specimen, with the hypothesis of uniform pressure and non-uniform temperature distribution, has been made to exhibit the two-phase heat and mass transfer mechanism in the processes.
