Research & development and applications of heat pipes in CIS.

Author(s) : VASILIEV L. L.

Summary

The paper is a review of recent developments in heat pipes and thermosiphons in the former Soviet Union. One of the best ways to get to know CIS countries' heat pipe research and development is to look at the trends in publications, projects and patents. The review focuses on practical heat pipe applications in space programs, industries and agriculture, and is based on commonly available references published in the proceedings of various national and international conferences and journals. Heat pipes and heat-pipe-based devices are being used as efficient heat transfer units for cooling, heating, and thermal control in different branches of industry. The definition of 'heat pipe' is actually a synonym for efficient heat transfer with phase change in closed autonomous systems, which is realised in different ways.
