Summary

OSLO ENERGY SUPPLY COMPANY IS BUILDING A HEAT PUMP FOR HEATING A DOWNTOWN DISTRICT WHICH WILL INCLUDE FOUR UNITS EQUIPPED WITH SCREW COMPRESSORS WITH AN OVERALL CAPACITY OF 8 TO 9 MW. THE HEAT PUMP WILL USE SEWAGE WATER AS THE HEAT SOURCE, REQUIRING PRECAUTIONS FOR THE EVAPORATOR DESIGN. PLATE EVAPORATORS WERE SELECTED. THE PLANT WAS SIMULATED BY COMPUTER AT THE INSTITUTT FOR KULDETEKNIKK, NTH, TRONDHEIM. ANNUAL ENERGY PRODUCTION IS ESTIMATED AT 37 GWH, OF WHICH 27 GWH ARE DRAWN FROM SEWAGE WATER. THE COST OF ENERGY IS LOWER THAN THAT OF CONVENTIONAL HEATING ENERGY.
