Date: 1900.01.01

Summary

These proceedings of the IEA Annex 23 workshop (see also IIR Bulletin, ref. 1999 - 3296), held in Niagara Falls, Canada, on June 18-19, 1998, contain 10 country reports, 6 invited papers and 2 poster papers. The workshop has documented heat pumps as renewable energy technology capable of reducing global warming and providing an excellent long-term return on investment. It has been agreed that distributed heating and cooling systems have a tremendous potential in residential and commercial applications to save energy and improve comfort. Extract from the table of contents: country reports (summaries from the Canadian, Swiss, USA, Swedish, and French reports; North American monitoring of a hotel with room size ground-source heat pumps; different heat pump applications in Sweden; a miniature heat-actuated air conditioner utility industry); new markets and new products (25% energy cost saving for an apartment complex in Canada; annual report from the Japanese HPC; European utility perspective on heat pumps; evaluation of heat pumps for hotels. Some of the articles will be abstracted in a future issue of the IIR Bulletin.
