Summary

STATES THAT SUITABLY DESIGNED HEAT PUMPS USING AMMONIA AS THE REFRIGERANT CAN OPERATE WITH EVAPORATOR TEMPERATURES DOWN TO 253 K (-20 DEG C) AND CONDENSER TEMPERATURES CAPABLE OF GIVING HEAT TRANSFER FLUID TEMPERATURES OF ABOUT 331 K (58 DEG C) LARGER, SITE-BUILT INSTALLATIONS USING AMMONIA CAN ALSO ACHIEVE CONSIDERABLY BETTER OVERALL OPERATING ECONOMICS AT LOWER EVAPORATOR TEMPERATURES THAN NORMAL LIQUID COOLING UNITS USING R12 OR R22. CONCLUDES THAT NORMALLY THE USE OF HEAT PUMPS AND HEAT RECOVERY SYSTEMS COUPLED TO A REFRIGERATION PLANT CAN BE VERY PROFITABLE. (INT. BUILD. SERV. ABSTR., GB., 26, N 1, 1991/01-02, 91-00055.
