Summary

THIS FEASIBILITY STUDY DESCRIBES A GENERAL MODEL FOR ECONOMIC SIZING OF ADDITIONAL ENERGY PRODUCTION UNITS IN A DISTRICT HEATING PLANT. ALL COSTS HAVE BEEN EXPRESSED AS FUNCTIONS OF THE THERMAL OUTPUT POWER OF THE ENERGY PRODUCTION PLANT FOR OPTIMIZATION PURPOSES. THE MODEL HAS BEEN USED FOR CALCULATING A HEAT PUMP FOR RECOVERY OF HEAT FROM PURIFIED SEWAGE EFFLUENT. CALCULATIONS HAVE ALLOWED FOR BOTH DAILY AND ANNUAL VARIATIONS IN EFFLUENT FLOW. THE ECONOMIC OPTIMUM SIZE OF HEAT PUMP IS ABOUT 5 MW, PRODUCING A CALCULATED INTERNAL INTEREST RATE OF 24%. IF THE TEMPERATUREOF SEWAGE EFFLUENT IS REDUCED, THERE WOULD BE ONLY MARGINAL EFFECTS ON THE THICKNESS OF ICE COVER. (SYNOP. SWED. BUILD. RES., SE., N.7, 1983/12, 26.
