Heat transfer and pressure drop for in-tube evaporation of CO2.

Summary

Because of the high pressure in CO2 refrigerating plants, correlations for smaller diameters than the ordinary are especially needed. A new test rig with a 7 millimeter diameter aluminium tube test section has been constructed to measure local heat transfer and pressure drop coefficients. The first experiments have been carried out with lubricant-free CO2 at mass fluxes between 200 and 400 kg/m2.s, heat fluxes between 3000 and 9000 watts/m2 and with evaporation temperatures from -25 to +5 deg C. Results are given.
