HEAT TRANSFER AND PRESSURE DROP OF SPINED PIPE IN CROSSFLOW. 1. PRESSURE DROP STUDIES. 2. HEAT TRANSFER STUDIES. 3. AIR-SIDE PERFORMANCE COMPARISON TO OTHER HEAT EXCHANGERS.

Author(s) : HOLT ZAPPLE M. T.

Summary

PRESSURE DROP DATA WERE TAKEN FOR AIR BLOWN IN CROSSFLOW OVER BANKS OF SPINED PIPE. TWO PIPE DIAMETERS WERE TESTED, EACH AT DIFFERENT EQUILATERAL TRIANGULAR SPACINGS. ROWS WERE ADDED ONE AT A TIME RANGING FROM ONE TO EIGHT, AND AIR VELOCITIES RANGED FROM 1 TO 5.6 M/S. TO EXTEND THE DATA TO GASES OTHER THAN AIR, THE FANNING FRICTION FACTOR IS PRESENTED AS A FUNCTION OF THE REYNOLDS NUMBER. THE EMPHASIS OF THE PAPER IS PRESSURE DROP, WHILE A COMPANION PAPER DESCRIBES HEAT TRANSFER, AND A THIRD PAPER COMPARES THE PERFORMANCE OF SPINED PIPE WITH OTHER HEAT TRANSFER SURFACES.
