Heat transfer of binary mixtures in nucleate pool boiling.

Author(s) : FUJITA Y., BAI Q., TSUTSUI M.

Summary

Heat transfer coefficients in nucleate pool boiling of seven binary mixtures were measured at atmospheric pressure using a horizontal thin wire as the heated surface. The measured data set was used to compare with six typical heat transfer correlations proposed to predict nucleate boiling of mixture and their respective accuracy was estimated. The comparison made clear that any single correlation is not adequate to reproduce the measured data irrespective of mixtures with acceptable accuracy. To account for the effect of heat flux on heat transfer reduction, a ratio of two temperature differences that are determined from the phase equilibrium diagram was introduced in correlating the same data. A new correlation developed in this way was found to predict the measured heat transfer coefficients for the seven mixtures well within the more or less 20% accuracy lines.
