HEAT TRANSPORT IN FREEZE-DRYING OF PHARMACEUTICALS. GEOMETRICAL AND CONFIGURATIONAL ASPECTS.

Summary

THE AUTHORS DISCUSS HEAT TRANSFER MECHANISMS, CONSIDERING THE MAIN CHARACTERISTICS OF THE FREEZE-DRYING OF PHARMACEUTICALS. THEY STUDY THE EFFECT OF THE GEOMETRY OF PHIALS AND THEIR ARRANGEMENT IN THE VACUUM CHAMBER. AN INVESTIGATION HAS BEEN MADE CONSIDERING DIFFERENT PRESSURE AND HEATING TEMPERATURE CONDITIONS. THE RESULTS WERE DISCUSSED BY COMPARING THE TEST HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENTS WITH THOSE CALCULATED FROM THE MATHEMATICAL MODEL. RADIATION AND CONVECTION HEAT GAIN WAS FOUND TO BE VERY LOW. FOR THIS REASON THE DRYING TIME IS EXCESSIVELY LONG UNDER USUAL CONDITIONS.
