Summary

Present status of research and development on high-critical temperature oxide superconducting tape and wire conductors is reviewed. For bismuth-based oxide, tape and wire conductors are fabricated by powder methods such as silver sheath method, dip-coating method and jelly-roll method. Grain orientated microstructure is easily obtained by these methods. Promising results are obtained with small coils fabricated using bismuth-based oxides. However, critical-current density in fields decreases rapidly with increasing temperatures. For yttrium-123 and thallium-1223, excellent transport critical-current density can be obtained in films. Biaxially grain oriented yttrium-123 short tapes prepared by laser ablation technique and thallium-1223 thick films prepared by spray coating method show excellent critical-current density-B characteristics at 77 K.
