Type of article: Article

Summary

This is the third and final part of a three-part series of articles on high-glide refrigerants for refrigeration system retrofits. Part 1, published in the November 2016 ASHRAE Journal, covered calculating superheat and subcooling with glide, and control of superheat with glide. Part 2, published in the December issue, deals with selection of proper thermostatic charges, capacities of several refrigerant blends relative to both R-404A and R-22, and examines how existing components on the liquid side of a system may be affected by a retrofit to a newer, high-glide blend. Part 3 deals with select components on the suction side of the system, and considerations for filterdriers, oil, and external seals. An overall guide summarizing retrofit considerations is also provided.
