Summary
Liquid hammering in refrigeration plants is a dangerous phenomenon. In particular, during hot-gas defrosting, several situations involving enormous high pressure peaks, resulting in material damage, have been experienced. Liquid hammering can be created by quickly opening or closing valves and by so-called vapour propelled liquid. Pipe configuration and defrost-sequence rules are worked out.
