How to overcome energy penalties in supermarket HT direct expansion plants using HFCs instead of HCFCs.

Author(s) : RIVET P.

Summary

Due to the ban of CFC's and the European new regulations regarding the use of HCFCs, HFCs will be more used in low temperature applications. For several customers who have also refrigeration plants, they will naturally choose the same HFC refrigerant. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the result of this choice on HT direct expansion systems for super and hyper markets. Since it implies an increase of power consumption, the author will try to list what can be done in order to minimize or to avoid this penalty.
