Summary

This document enables the history of ice sheets covering the Earth's poles to be retraced. These sheets are thought to have been subjected to considerable variations in the past, leading to large variations in sea level. By studying the microscopic fossils and coral contained in various strata of these ice sheets, the sea level during various eras can be reconstituted and the volumes of ice covering the Earth during various periods can also be determined. The authors have performed deductions concerning CO2 in the atmosphere during the eras in question.
