Summary

In this article, the author evaluates the feasibility and application of ice-storage systems in commercial buildings. He shows their technical and economic feasibility, and describes also the systems generally available. Then, he provides building managers, engineers and final users with some directives for dimensioning a plant and for determining its main characteristics. He describes in detail the operation and maintenance costs by comparing them with those of traditional plants, and determines how and under which conditions air-conditioning plants can be fitted with ice-storage systems in commercial buildings.
