Summary
In a Danish supermarket, a conventional plant with direct expansion of HCFC was replaced by an indirect two-stage cooling system with ammonia, without replacing the evaporators of cold cells and display cases. The authors describe the refrigeration plant and the measurement programme carried out on both the old plant and the new one. The results of this programme show that such a substitution is feasible. Taking into account energy recovery, the indirect plant has not resulted more expensive in energy, in spite of theoretical considerations. The use of such a solution might be generalized. The final results of the project will be published as soon as they are available. J.G.
