Summary

Information obtained from laboratory and epidemiological studies suggests that indoor air pollutants are an important cause of avoidable morbidity and mortality in the United Kingdom. The paper reviews the major indoor air pollutants of concern in the United Kingdom (environmental tobacco smoke, carbon monoxide, oxides of nitrogen, damp, mould and mites) and considers exposure assessment and vulnerable groups.
