Type of monograph: Doctoral thesis

Summary

This thesis, presented at the Unité de Formation et de Recherche de l'Université Paris-Sud 11 for a PhD in Pharmacy, analyses the influence of copper pipings on bacterial biofilms and examines the status of copper piping versus other types of commonly used materials in drinking-water distribution networks. Excessive production of biomass adhering to the surfaces in contact with the water in the distribution networks can reduce in the organoleptic, chemical or microbiological quality of water. These 3-D structures are a known cause of bacterial contamination of flowing water, through the release of bacteria adhering to pipes.
