INFLUENCE OF INTERNAL TURBULATORS ON HEAT TRANSFER IN EVAPORATOR TUBES.

Author(s) : BRENDENG E.

Summary

THE PERFORMANCE OF AN EXTENDED SURFACE EVAPORATOR WITH A SUPERHEATER IS GREATLY INFLUENCED BY THE RESISTANCE TO HEAT TRANSFER BETWEEN THE REFRIGERANT AND THE TUBE WALL. THE HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT IS LOW AT THE INLET OF THE EVAPORATOR TUBE AND INCREASES THROUGH IT WITH INCREASING VAPOUR QUALITY AND VELOCITY. TWISTED TAPE INSERTS WERE USED FOR INCREASING HEAT TRANSFER. TESTS WERE CARRIED OUT ON A COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE AIRCOOLER AND AN ELECTRICALLY HEATED SINGLE TUBE EVAPORATOR. THEIR PERFORMANCES ARE MARKEDLY IMPROVED WITH TWISTED TAPE INSERTS AND THIS OBSERVATION AGREES WITH THE MEASUREMENTS OF HEAT TRANSFER AND PRESSURE DROP IN A SINGLE TUBE EVAPORATOR.
