Summary

The heat transfer coefficient of pure CO2 is high with respect to other refrigerants, whereby in combination with microchannels small heat exchangers could be applied. A study carried out at SINTEF Energy Research points out that small amounts of lubricant decrease the heat transfer coefficient by 40 to 70%. The possible causes of this phenomenon are changes in surface tension, roughness of the tube wall and conductivity.
