Summary
Research work and pilot projects carried out in the world show that considerable emission reductions might be achieved by improving the energy efficiency of buildings. Some of the countries have already implemented active measures in this sector for a longer period of time. The calculation of CO2 emissions based on present forecasts of the reduction in energy consumption in the case of improvement of the thermal protection of residential building shows that, considering existing buildings, it can contribute substantially to the fulfilment of international obligations.
