Summary

OPTICAL MICROSCOPY STUDIES HAVE BEEN CARRIED OUT TO STUDY THE EFFECT OF TWINNING ON THE SUPERCONDUCTING PROPERTIES OF BULK YBACUO(7-) (1:2:3) USING A RANGE OF SAMPLES WHICH HAVE BEEN PREPARED UNDER DIFFERENT CONDITIONS OF TEMPERATURE AND PRESSURE. CRITICAL TRANSPORT CURRENT DENSITY MEASUREMENTS MADE AT 77 K ON EACH SAMPLE ARE FOUND TO BE UNCORRELATED WITH THE INCIDENCE OF TWIN BOUNDARIES IN THE SAMPLES. THE IMPLICATIONS OF THIS FINDING ARE DISCUSSED.
